Whilst visiting family in the UK last week, I decided it would be a great opportunity to visit our UK Building Services team. I visited the Maidenhead office, which is located between London and my hometown of Reading. The Maidenhead office is solely for Building Services engineers comprising of mechanical, electrical, public health, fire, vertical transportation and energy specialists. There are over 200 employees within the Building Services and Energy team in the UK working on really exciting and iconic projects, in central London.
I met with some of the team and we talked about our experiences and project portfolios and discussed how we could share knowledge and work together. I was really impressed with the projects they were working on which include many high-rise residential and commercial buildings in London. It was also great to see the use of BIM on many projects.
There is a clear emphasis on sustainable design in their projects, many of which have achieved outstanding and excellent BREEAM ratings. I also noticed the number of awards in the office that they had won as a result, including BREEAM Assessor Company of the Year 2016.
Following my visit, I went into central London and passed by one of the projects Sweco UK have worked on, 1 Pancras square, which is a 7,500m2 office development near Kings Cross. The project achieved a BREEAM outstanding rating.
